PHP Chapter 1 Questions

January 22, 2008

Why use PHP?

Php is useful for a number of things including connecting and using databases, and allowing the server to interact with the users.  Php is great for submitting form data, and this can help in things such as online stores, online surveys, and message boards.

How is it written?

It looks difficult at first, but php seems to be a bunch of loops that tell the server to do certain things. For example, there could be a line of code that tells the server to show the visitor’s IP address on load.

www.zezima.biz

This website created in Santee CA, sells unique custom email addresses for the MMORPG RuneScape. Right now they lack a decent way to look around the site. Currently, their only page is the index which includes an application for an email account.  This site has a great layout, and has potential to become big. Online Game users are always looking for a way to stand out, and with a unique email such as ‘theirname@zezima.biz’, they will be recognized above others on forum sites, messengers, and in game, which will make this site very successful. This site needs to add more pages for further information such as support, and maybe even a way for users to check their email from the site.

www.ronnhall.com

The Ronn Hall Insurance group is one of the bigger San Diego based insurance companies. After looking at this site for awhile, I have come to  the conclusion that it is very unoirganized, and poorly put together. This site needs work. Their side scroll navigation reminds me of the mid 90’s. It is pretty cheap to make a navigation in a sepearate frame, because it makes it harder to know where you are. Also, this website appears warped in Firefox. If they are making a website for a large business, it should be compatible with the most used browser ever. One thing that this site does well is suck. They are really good at sucking with their web design.

http://www.photobucket.com/

This website allows users to upload their images, and then other users can search the images. This allows people to access and share pictures which is a kick arse idea.

Nasa Photo Gallery

This gallery lists links to each of their pictures, which is cool, but it is kinda hard to use.

San Diego Photo Gallery

This site has smaller pictures like a list, and if you see one that catches your interest, you can blow it up. I think this is how galleries should be.
